Sr National Powerlifting: Odisha bag 15 medals

Odisha bagged a total of 15 medals in the National Classic Powerlifting Championship, held at Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh from September 26 to 30, 2018. The medals include seven gold, six silver and two bronze. Apart from the individual medals, Odisha emerged team champions in junior and senior women’s groups and second runners-up in senior men’s section.

According to Odisha Powerlifting Association secretary Chitta Ranjan Swain, Laxmimani Singh won one gold medal each in women’s 47kg junior and senior categories, lifting 105kg in squat, 65kg in benchpress, 137.5kg in deadlift for a total of 307.5kg. She was also awarded as the Junior Strong Woman of India.

Rupali Palei secured one secured one silver medal each in women’s 47kg junior and senior sections. She lifted 102.5kg in squat, 55kg in benchpress and 130kg in deadlift for a total of 287.5kg.

Other five gold medals were claimed by Seemarani Singh in junior women 34kg (80+50+112.5= 242.5kg), Dhanamani Tudu in junior women 57kg (97.5+52.5+137.5= 287.5kg, Sangita Singh in senior women 84kg (160+85+157.5= 402.5kg, Biswajit Jena in junior men 66kg (175+135+210= 520kg) and Tarandeep Singh in senior men above 120kg (250+130+230= 610kg) weight categories.

Other four silver medals were captured by Bharati Patra in junior women 43kg (75+45+107.5= 227.5kg), Debi Singh in senior women 52kg (115+72.5+155= 342.5kg), Bichitra Nayak in senior men 66kg (190+142.5+230= 562.5kg) and Rajendra Parida in Masters-II 105kg (180+117.5+202.5= 500kg) categories.

Padmabati Singh won one bronze in junior women 72kg category with efforts of 110kg in squat, 60kg in benchpress and 130kg in deadlift for a total of 300kg, while the other bronze was pocketed by Anupama Swain in senior woman 52kg (135+65+135= 335kg) group.
